Containing only the highest quality matcha, this Numi 1.06 oz. organic ceremonial matcha loose powdered tea combines premium flavor with time-honored tradition, sourced directly from a multi-generational Japanese family farm. This authentic first flush organic ceremonial grade matcha is made from ground organic tencha leaves that are hand-plucked off the top of a shade-grown green tea plant during Japans first harvest, or ichibancha (translating to "first tea"), of the year. The most sought-after harvest, these young leaves are the highest quality, most nutrient-dense leaves, and typically contain 3 times more of the naturally-occurring L-theanine than subsequent harvests. The leaves are shade-grown for the last 20 days of their growing cycle to reduce the amount of direct sunlight on the plant. This process limits photosynthesis, thus boosting levels of chlorophyll, antioxidants, and L-theanine.
Matcha tea is a highly caffeinated tea with a bright, savory taste and a hint of sweetness. It contains a great source of antioxidants, as youre consuming the whole leaf instead of brewed leaves. To prepare, mix 1 tsp. of matcha powder with 8 oz. of boiling water or milk until blended and frothy. Add the desired sweetener and serve hot, iced, or in smoothies.
